Gill Coliseum to keep name following Oregon State review process

Oregon State University President Ed Ray announced Monday that Gill Coliseum, the school's basketball arena and athletic department hub, will keep its name.

The decision comes following a multi-month review process analyzing the namesakes of four on-campus buildings after two years of challenges to their names.

The school published a report six weeks ago concluding that legendary OSU men's basketball coach Amory "Slats" Gill did not deliberately keep his teams segregated during his 36-year tenure from 1928-1964.

"I find that the scholars' report and naming review process offers no evidence that Gill deliberately sought to keep the Oregon State men's basketball team from becoming integrated," Ray wrote in a statement.
