Gary Andersen content with Oregon State's ongoing quarterback competition

CORVALLIS -- Oregon State coaches hoped to identify a starting quarterback "early" in 2017. That did not happen, with Marcus McMaryion, Darell Garretson and newcomer Jake Luton still competing for the job following spring practice.

Beavers coach Gary Andersen understands the outside speculation and anticipation surrounding that race. But he's not concerned about where the position group currently stands.

"I don't dislike where we are," Andersen told The Oregonian/OregonLive.com. "What I would dislike is if we couldn't make a decision because we had three quarterbacks that couldn't manage a team. That would be really scary."

Andersen has continuously stressed the need to significantly improve in the passing game, following a second consecutive season where OSU ranked near the bottom of the nation in nearly every major statistical category.
