CORVALLIS – Last Saturday, the site of Jack Anderson's boyhood joy was the stage for his greatest collegiate moment.
The players from the 2006 College World Series championship team he grew up idolizing were in the Goss Stadium stands. The lifelong Oregon State fan came to the plate with his heart racing in the bottom of the eighth inning in a 4-4 game.
Not since whiffle ball had the scenario emerged, he said. As if the result unfolded in his backyard, Anderson located a fastball down in the zone and slapped it back up the middle for the game-winning single.
