San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Victor Bolden was suspended for four games for violating the NFL's policy of performance enhancing drugs, the league announced Friday.

Bolden, a former Oregon State star, will miss the first four games of the regular season. Bolden said he "unknowingly" used a substance banned by the NFL.
"Unknowingly, I used a supplement that was on the NFL's banned substance list," Bolden said in a statement released by the team Friday. "As a professional athlete, I take full responsibility for not verifying the ingredients of the supplement.
