New York City – Oregon State sophomore heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi won twice on Thursday and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Championships at Madison Square Garden.
The seventh-seed, Dhesi (29-3) pinned Jeramy Sweany of Cornell in 1:17 in the first round and then won by major decision, 12-4, over Collin Jensen of Nebraska in the round of 16. He will take a 15-match winning streak into Friday morning’s match against second-seeded Kyle Snyder of Ohio State.
Ronnie Bresser (125), Joey Palmer (133), Joey Delgado (149), Seth Thomas (165) and Corey Griego (184) all recovered from first-round losses to win their wrestleback matches and stay in contention for third place.
