CORVALLIS -- Chuckie Keeton turned to Darell Garretson on the sideline with a simple message.
"Make sure you're right behind me with your helmet strapped on," the Oregon State graduate assistant told Garretson early in the Beavers' contest against Portland State. "And when we call your name, you better hustle out there."
That call for Garretson to enter the game came on OSU's first drive, then throughout the contest. The Beavers' backup quarterback picked up 29 rushing yards on six carries and scored a touchdown in the 35-32 win against the Vikings.
It was Garretson's first action since a broken leg ended a largely forgettable 2016 season.
