CORVALLIS – It could be argued as one of the greatest, if not best period in Civil War history, the 1998-2001 Oregon vs. Oregon State games.
Three current Oregon State coaches had a front-row seat to the games. They were there for a program-changing win in 1998, and in 2000, the only Civil War game with both teams boasting of a top 10 ranking.
Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith started all four games, throwing for more than 1,000 yards. Smith also threw the last pass of his playing career in the Civil War, an interception.
Beaver special teams coach Jake Cookus also played in the ’98-2001 games, stamping himself in Civil War history with a record-setting three interceptions in the 2000 win.
