Beavers Edged In Opener

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Andy Armstrong went 2-for-3 with a double but Oregon State dropped a 2-0 decision to USC Thursday night in the opener of a three-game series at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Armstrong doubled in the fifth and singled in the seventh to extend his hit streak to six games, while Beau Philip's third-inning double extended his to a season-long eight games.

Those three hits, however, comprised the team's offense thanks to a sharp start from USC's (24-28-1 overall, 12-14-1 Pac-12 Conference) John Beller. The lefty held the Beavers scoreless over seven innings, striking out nine while walking three.
