CORVALLIS — As the final minutes dwindled, Jamie Weisner needed to cover her ears.
A Gill Coliseum crowd of more than 7,800 — the overwhelming majority of it made up of elementary and middle school students on a field trip to Oregon State's campus — had started screaming louder and louder. There was no particular reason for the action other than being encouraged, the same cue that prompted five rounds of The Wave and a Whip/Nae Nae dance party earlier in the afternoon.
But in a way, the building roar as No. 7 OSU finished off Cal State Bakersfield 75-51 in Tuesday's Beavers Beyond the Classroom matinee was also symbolic.
