Beavers battle in 1-0 setback to Utah

Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s soccer team battled Utah for the full 90 minutes on Friday but fell 1-0 at Lorenz Field in their Pacific-12 Conference home opener.

Utah’s Mariah Elmer scored the only goal of the game at 38:50 on an unassisted effort down the left side of the 18-yard box. Her chip shot eluded goalie Bella Geist and landed in the back of the net for her third marker of the season.

Sophomore Emma Jones and junior McKenzie Redberg had two shots apiece for the Beavers (4-3-3, 0-2-0 Pac-12). OSU applied steady pressure over the final 20 minutes in search of the tying goal and had two of their four corner kicks in that span, but could not draw even.
