Minneapolis, Minn. – Quarterback Darell Garretson threw for three touchdowns and 228 yards in his first start but Oregon State fell to Minnesota 30-23 on Thursday night.
The Beavers (0-1) early in the fourth quarter but the Gophers rallied for two touchdowns to escape with the victory before a crowd of 44,852 at TCF Bank Stadium.
Garretson hooked up with H back Noah Togiai on a 6-yard scoring pass in the first quarter and a 30-yard TD pass to Victor Bolden in the second quarter.
His third TD, a 12-yarder to running back Tim Cook, gave the Beavers a 23-17 lead with 2:30 remaining in the third quarter.
