1. Jake Luton and Conor Blount
Two years ago, Gary Andersen named Darell Garretson the OSU starting quarterback less than a week after his impressive spring game performance. Under a new regime, Jonathan Smith is in no hurry to name a starting quarterback and will take the competition into fall camp.
The 6-foot-7, strong-armed Jake Luton is the only senior or signal caller with Division I starting experience and remains the likely candidate to win the position. His development would be the biggest potential boon to the Beavers’ offense. Conor Blount is the far more mobile option and has an improvisational streak, but he has been told by offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren he needs to have better ball security when he escapes the pocket.
