Once thought of as a "silent commit" for about a month before he committed publicly, rated by 247Sports composite rankings as a 3-star prospect, the 6-foot, 199-pound who can play both safety and linebacker from Saint Louis School in Honolulu, Hawaii verbally committed to Oregon State on October 29th over offers from Hawaii, Nevada, Southern Utah, UNLV, and Vanderbilt while also receiving some interest from schools such as Arizona, San Diego State, Utah, Utah State, and Washington. Tufaga is also ranked as the fifth best player in the state of Hawaii by 247Sports.
It was after Tufaga's official visit to Corvallis in September that he knew he wanted to commit to the Beavers citing the comfortability of feeling at home and knowing multiple players on the team already that he has played with and against in Hawaii.
