Friday’s series opener was over almost as soon as it began, as the Beavs rolled to an impressive 8-0 victory. The Beavs effort was powered by their two best players in starting pitcher Luke Heimlich and second baseman Nick Madrigal.
Heimlich picked up his 7th win on the season, pitching 8 innings of shutout baseball while striking out a career high 12 batters. Grant Gambrell pitched a perfect ninth inning to preserve the shutout. The Bears mildly threatened in the 6th inning loading the bases with one out before an unorthodox double play ended the inning, as Heimlich struck out Andrew Vaughn with a pitch in the dirt that skipped past Adley Rutschman, but the freshman catcher tracked down the ball and gunned out Cameron Eden trying to score from third.
