Senior defensive back Juwaan Williams, who started the 2016 season opener and went on to win the athletic department's Emerald Award this spring for his achievement in athletics, service and scholarship, was named Tuesday to the preseason watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy.
Named for 1996 Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel of Florida, the trophy is awarded to the Football Bowl Subdivision player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement. It is presented by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
A member of Oregon's starting secondary at times throughout the past two seasons, Williams completed his undergraduate degree in journalism this spring and will play his final season for the Ducks this fall as a graduate student.
