The International Association of Athletics Federations Council, which has been meeting in Birmingham, England, made some important decisions yesterday.
The IAAF is the governing body of international track and field.
The decision that will get the most publicity is the Council's vote to revise regulations about hyperandrogenism for women's events between 400 meters and the mile.
This is an uncomfortable issue in the sport. Female athletes who through no fault of their own have elevated levels of male sex hormones in their bodies, are believed by many to have a competitive advantage.
Of greater significance to fans here in the Pacific Northwest, though, is the council's decision to fix dates for the World Outdoor Championships as either the last weekend in August or the first weekend in September.
