EUGENE - Unprompted, University of Oregon javelin thrower Cody Danielson pulls out his cell phone and finds the photo of his left hand, the one taken shortly after a March accident that cost him parts of two fingers.
Danielson had been driving an all-terrain vehicle on his parents' property near Newberg to exercise the family dogs when a strap began to slide off the back.
He reached for it with his left hand, grabbing it with his middle and ring fingers just as the two ends of the strap wrapped around the axle.
His two fingers took were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
