Eugene, Ore. – The Minnesota Twins selected Oregon third baseman Spencer Steer in the third round of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.
Steer was the 90th overall pick, the highest selection of a position player in the modern era of Oregon baseball. He was picked 10 spots higher than Ryon Healy, who went 100th overall to the Oakland A's in the 2013 draft.
Steer is also the fifth-highest draft pick in the modern era, behind first-round picks Tyler Anderson (2011) and David Peterson (2017), and second-round selections Ryne Nelson (2019) and Madison Boer (2011).
