I agree with those who say U.S. track and field needs to expand outside of its foothold in Eugene, but it's hard to conclude Sacramento is the answer.
Blisteringly-hot temperatures, and a stadium with aluminum seats and without cover aren't a good combination.
It's hard to blame people for not wanting to show up and watch given the weather and the stadium. But it's also not a good statement for the sport when the Day 3 network television coverage of the USATF Outdoor Championships reveals large blocks of empty seats.
It's not that the action wasn't compelling.
