There’s cautious optimism among the Wahoos, who hired BYU’s Bronco Mendenhall as their new head coach last December 4th.
Mendenhall won 99 games in 11 years at Provo, including two conference championships. He reached a bowl every season and finished in the Top 25 five times, the most successful coach in school history after Lavell Edwards.
Cavalier fans find hope in the fact that Mendenhall resurrected Cougar football after Gary Crowton wrecked it. BYU suffered three straight losing seasons before the Harley-riding Mormon surfer took over. He turned it around immediately, 6-6 in his first year in 2005, 11-2 in his second.
