EUGENE -- When Oregon softball coach Mike When began recruiting Shannon Rhodes out of Fort Worth, Texas, a few years ago, there was no way of knowing, of course, that as a freshman she would one day drive a game-tying double down the left-field line with UO down to its final out in an NCAA softball tournament regional.

Still, there was a clue that told him Rhodes might one day be clutch: She has an older sibling.

"If you have an older brother, older sister or a couple older sisters," White said, "ones that are competitive and play sports, usually that competitive drive follows through.
