The University of Oregon men's track team is No. 1 in the first outdoor rankings released this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Ducks have four mid-distance runners -- James West, Matthew Maton, Sam Prakel and Blake Haney -- ranked in the top 10 using USTFCCCA preseason data.
The USTFCCCA also is high on sprinter-jumper Damarcus Simpson and sprinter Cravon Gillespie, a transfer from Mt. San Antonio College.
The UO women's team is ranked No. 2, behind Arkansas.
The men's top five consists of Oregon, Texas A&M, Houston, Florida and Georgia.
