The Oregon Ducks have a special group of women sprinters: Oregon track & field rundown

When I returned to covering track and field for The Oregonian in the spring of 2005, sprinting was an afterthought at the University of Oregon.

The Ducks occasionally had good sprinters, but their foundation was distances/throws/multi events.

The current UO women's program has changed all of that.

The Ducks won their seventh NCAA Indoor title in eight seasons yesterday in College Station, Texas with with 84 points, most at an indoor meet for any Division I women's team in history. They did it without single point from a field event.

They scored 17 in the distances -- six in the distance medley relay and 11 in the 3,000 -- and would have won the title by double figures without them.
