Texas A&M's Lindon Victor misses Ashton Eaton's meet record but wins second NCAA decathlon title

EUGENE -- Texas A&M's Lindon Victor lived up to his name once again.

Victor was victorious in claiming his second consecutive NCAA decathlon national championship Thursday and just missed breaking Ashton Eaton's meet record at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships at Hayward Field.

Victor's score of 8,390 points is seventh-highest in NCAA history.

While there was no doubt Victor would win the title entering the final event, as he entered with a comfortable margin, there was a sliver of suspense regarding whether Victor could run 4 minutes, 44.45 seconds or faster in the 1,500 meters to break Eaton's 2010 NCAA decathlon meet-record of 8,457.
