EUGENE - The Oregon Ducks cleared the decks for Pac-12 play by shoving aside winless San Jose State 35-22 Saturday in Autzen Stadium.
But not without slipping, stumbling and looking generally unimpressive before 50,049.
The No. 20 Ducks (3-0) waded into this game as six-touchdown favorites. They never were in any real danger of losing.
But they struggled all game offensively. The run game averaged a futile 2.7 yards per rush against a San Jose State defense that FCS UC Davis torched 589 yards and 44 points.
Quarterback Justin Herbert sometimes seemed on a different wave length than his receivers.
