Shelby Houlihan's appearance at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships was doubly satisfying.
One day after the Bowerman Track Club runner claimed the 1,500-meter championship, the Iowa native won the 5,000, too, in front of friends and family in Des Moines on Sunday, the meet's final day.
Houlihan's winning time was 15 minutes, 31.03 seconds.
"I just felt really good, really controlled and I could kind of feel it start squeezing down the last mile-ish," Houlihan told reporters. "With 800 to go I felt really good and with about 250 to go that's when I took the lead and just tried to hammer as much as I could.
