ROLLING HILLS, Calif. – Freshman Shweta Sangwan and sophomore Kennan Johnson both picked up main draw wins in singles and doubles on Friday as the Oregon women’s tennis team wrapped up its second day at the Jack Kramer Invitational.
How It Happened: In doubles, after an impressive 8-1 win on Thursday, the Oregon duo of Johnson and Sangwan was victorious again in Friday’s round of 16. The tandem advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles main draw with an 8-5 win over Arizona’s Samantha Czarniak-Rego and Inge Hendrix.
In Friday’s singles round of 32, Johnson defeated UC Santa Barbara’s Amanda Atanasson, 6-4, 2-6, 10-4, and Sangwan handled Pepperdine’s Michaela Capannolo, 6-1, 6-3, to set up a matchup between the two Oregon newcomers.
