For a certain subset of the UO men’s track and field team, the Oregon Twilight meet is a turning point in the season.
By that point, in early May, just before track and field enters its postseason, spring football practice has ended. Student-athletes doubling in football and track, thus, can turn their focus solely to running.
Two years ago that was the schedule Devon Allen was on, and he ended up winning the USA Outdoor title in the 110-meter hurdles. This spring is different. After spending last year recovering from a knee injury, Allen is skipping spring football practice for the sake of his track and field goals, up to and including the Summer Olympics.
