In a move that would have changed the outcomes of no previous seasons, the Pac-12 passed a rule on Monday that would eliminate any 5-7 football teams from participating in the postseason.
Traditionally, teams have to have at least six wins to become bowl eligible. An expanded bowl lineup in 2015 forced the NCAA to allow five-win teams to accept bowl invitations if there weren't enough teams with qualified records. Those 5-7 teams were selected based on Academic Progress Ratings.
According to the Associated Press, the presidents of the Pac-12 voted to ban teams with a 5-7 record, even if a team's APR qualifies for an open bid.
