-- The Pac-12 likes to bill itself as the conference of champions, and recently pocketed its 500th national title when the Washington women's rowing team won this year NCAA championship.
No other conference has more 307.
As the Daily Star's Greg Hansen points out in his Sunday notes column (second item), track and field and cross country have contributed the lion's share of those national titles, 97 to be exact.
The UO women's track team is heavily favored to run the overall conference total to at least 501 this week at Hayward Field.
