EUGENE -- Oregon junior Brooke Feldmeier wasn't supposed to score at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
So much for the form charts.
Feldmeier came charging from behind to clinch third place in the 800-meter final Saturday at Hayward Field, handing the Ducks six critical team points that loomed large by the end of the day.
The Ducks won the women's title with 64 points, barely holding off Georgia, second with 62.2.
If Feldmeier hadn't scored or finished fifth -- which is what she was coming off the final turn and onto the home straight -- Georgia would have been the national champion and Oregon would have finished second.
