When Satou Sabally signed with Oregon in 2016, her future coach described the German player with the size of a forward but skills of a guard as one of the most gifted players in the world.
On Tuesday, Pac-12 voters called her something else -- the conference's top freshman.
Sabally averaged 10.9 points and 3.7 rebounds for the Ducks, shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from three. Her points and shooting percentage were the best among conference freshmen.
"I'm just thankful," Sabally told Pac-12 Network following the win.
Sabally is the fourth Duck to win top freshman honors, joining Shaquala Williams (1999), Jillian Alleyne (2013) and teammate Sabrina Ionescu last year.
