Oregon State coach Gary Andersen brought his coaching staff up to full strength and reorganized it with the announcement yesterday he had hired assistants Jason Phillips and John Rushing.
They replace Brent Brennan and Derrick Odum, both gone to San Jose State.
Of the two new hires, I'm most interested in what Jason Phillips means for the program going forward.
Phillips has a deep background in the pass-heavy, run-and-shoot offense, developed at the college level by Mouse Davis at Portland State and operated successfully by Portland native June Jones at Hawaii and SMU.
The Beavers' passing game has been sub-standard since Andersen replaced Mike Riley as OSU coach following the 2014 season.
