The Oregon Ducks football program has landed top-three national talents on three different occasions - Haloti Ngata (2002), De'Anthony Thomas (2011) and Arik Armstead (2012) - but has never secured the top player in the country.
Oregon's quest to end that streak took a major step forward this week, as the Ducks made the top five for 247Sports five-star defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux, the nation's No. 1 prospect.
The 6-foot-5, 234-pound defensive end/outside linebacker, out of Oaks Christian High School (Thousand Oaks, California), narrowed his list down to Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Oregon and USC:
