Oregon's decision to open the 2022 college football season against Georgia in Atlanta initially drew criticism from some Ducks fans wondering why UO would want to play just 70 miles from the Bulldogs' Athens campus.
One answer is the game fits UO's scheduling philosophy. The Ducks aim to fill their three nonconference slots annually with one opponent from a Power Five conference, one from a Group of Five conference and one from the Football Championship Subdivision.
Another answer is the amount of money UO will receive.
Oregon is guaranteed to be paid $4.5 million to take part in the 2022 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, according to a term sheet released by UO Monday following a records request from The Oregonian/OregonLive.
