EUGENE - With 17-time NCAA champion Edward Cheserek on the shelf with a lower back injury, Oregon Ducks Kyree King and Cole Walsh did what they could to step into the breach Wednesday at Hayward Field.
King set school records in the 100 and 200 meters, and ran a leg on Oregon's school record-setting 4x100 Friday in qualifying on the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Walsh tied for fifth in the pole vault final to contribute 3 1/2 team points.
But those were the only points the Ducks scored on the first day of competition before 9,717.
