NEW YORK - Oregon returns to the Mecca of basketball, Madison Square Garden, for the first time in nearly 15 years tonight in the first round of the 2K Sports Classic against Iowa.
The current Ducks were in grade school when Luke Johnson led Oregon to the 2004 NIT Final Four. Only senior Paul White, who began his career at Georgetown, has ever played a college game at MSG and even Oregon coach Dana Altman hasn't coached at the World's Most Famous Arena since March 1994, when he was at Kansas State.
"It's a great opportunity for our guys to go play in that type of venue (with) the history," Altman said.
