Sam Crouser, a two-time NCAA javelin champion for the Oregon Ducks and a 2016 Olympian, has retired.
Crouser's dad, Dean, said Sam never fully recovered from nagging knee problems he had while competing for the Ducks.
The younger Crouser set what was then the national high school record in the javelin of 224 feet, 2 inches while competing for Gresham. He is a four-time Pac-12 champ for the Ducks.
"He'd been throwing for so long, I think he felt content to be done," said Dean Crouser, UO school record-holder in the shot and discus.
Sam Crouser isn't completely through with track field.
