EUGENE, Ore. — On the day one Oregon baseball alum made his Major League Baseball debut, another potential future pro had a career outing for the Ducks on Sunday.
Junior reliever Ryne Nelson took the ball in the third inning against No. 12 Oregon State and went the rest of the way, striking out a career-high 12 as the UO baseball team beat the Beavers, 3-2 before 3,531 in PK Park. Nelson's outing came on the same day former UO pitcher Cole Irvin made his MLB debut, throwing seven innings to earn a win for the Philadelphia Phillies.
