Olympic champion Matthew Centrowitz of the Nike Oregon Project is out of the men's 1,500 meters at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in London.
Centrowitz finished last in his heat on Thursday at London Stadium, crossing in 3 minutes, 48.34 seconds. He told NBC after the race that he has had a difficult season, battling injuries and illness. The winning pack finished more than two seconds ahead of Centrowitz, who won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics and also medaled at the 2011 and 2013 world championships.
Americans Robby Andrews and Johnny Gregorek did move on to the semifinals.
