At the start of her senior season at Oregon State last fall, Marie Gulich said she "could not have imagined" one day becoming a first-round pick in the WNBA draft.
Even after closing her OSU career with an honorable mention All-America season, she still didn't believe it. Second round, she thought.
So imagine her surprise -- and the raucous reaction from the OSU teammates gathered around her at a Corvallis watch party Thursday evening -- when Phoenix selected the 6-foot-5 German center with the 12th and final pick of the draft's first round.
"Everyone was so loud and freaking out," Gulich said in a phone interview.
