EUGENE -- The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships begin four days of competition Wednesday with a nearly full slate of men's events at Hayward Field.
The men and women compete on alternate days, so the No. 1-ranked University of Oregon women will cool their heels until Thursday.
Much of the action on the track will be semifinal qualifying. There will be finals in the following events: the hammer, pole vault, javelin, long jump, shot and 10,000 meters.
The top eight places in each event score on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis, No UO men are projected to score today, although pole vaulter Cole Walsh and distance runner Tanner Anderson are capable of surprising.
