EUGENE -- The Prefontaine Classic kicks into gear tonight with a free, seven-event program at Hayward Field.
All are women's events in what is billed as Joan Benoit Samuelson Night, in honor of the first U.S. gold medalist in the women's marathon.
The action gets underway at 7:34 p.m. with the javelin, and closes with what is being billed as an attempt on the world record in the 5,000 meters by Ethiopian star Genzebe Dibaba.
Some local athletes of interest tonight are former University of Oregon star Laura Roesler in the 800, University of Portland student/Nike professional Alex Efraimson and Oregon Track Club Elite runner Sheila Reid in the 1,500.
