EUGENE -- Lauren Rain Williams' apprenticeship is over.
After five long, sometimes frustrating months, the University of Oregon's prized freshman sprinter broke out two weeks ago at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Arizona.
Williams clocked times of 11.29 seconds in the 100 meters and 22.51 in the 200.
"I felt like I was the Lauren Williams I was in high school," she says.
She not only won the 200 in Tucson's Drachman Stadium, but broke a seven-year-old facility record. Her time is No. 3 this season on the college level, behind only collegiate indoor record-holder Gabby Thomas of Stanford and Olympian Sydney McLaughlin of Kentucky.
