Norwegian teenager Jakob Ingebrigtsen used a 55.23-second last lap to storm to victory in the top section of the men's 1,500 meters Thursday in the Peyton Jordan Invitational at Stanford.
Ingebrigsten, 17, finished with a winning time of 3 minutes, 39.06 seconds.
"I had to go for the win, because nobody else would," Ingebrigtsen said in a post-race interview on FloTrack.
Paul Chelimo, 2016 Olympic silver medalist in the 5,000 meters, was second in 3:40.16. Former UO star Eric Jenkins, a member of the Nike Oregon Project, finished third in 3:40.28.
Other runners with local connections in the race included ex-Oregon runner Colby Alexander, fourth in 3:40.
