AUSTIN, Texas — Oregon running back Bucky Irving and quarterback Bo Nix were both announced as first-team academic all-Americans on Tuesday morning by College Sports Communicators.
Irving and Nix become just the third pair of Oregon teammates to earn first-team academic all-America status in the same season, joining Joey Harrington and Ryan Schmid in 2001 and Steve Barnett and Ed Thomas in 1962. They are Oregon's first academic all-America first-team selections since Justin Herbert earned the honor three years in a row from 2017-19.
Irving is the first Oregon running back ever to earn academic all-America status, while Nix joins Herbert, Harrington and Bill Musgrave (1990) as UO quarterbacks to receive the distinction.
