When the UO women's cross country team busted form charts to win the NCAA championship last fall, it set the stage for what could be an historic achievement a year in the making, and capped off this week at Hayward Field.
The Oregon women's track and field program followed up the fall cross country title with an NCAA Indoor championship in March. Thus this week at Hayward Field, the Ducks will be running and jumping not just for an NCAA Outdoor title, but for a "Triple Crown" of championships in the 2016-2017 academic year. Two men's programs have multiple triple crowns – Arkansas and Texas-El Paso – but the feat has never before been accomplished by a women's program in the same academic year.
