I caught up with Bob Penny this morning.
Penny has been one of the leaders of the quixotic attempt to save the Hayward Field's east grandstand from impending demolition to make way for the University of Oregon's new, state-of-the art track stadium.
Penny said he and his group were blindsided at yesterday afternoon's meeting of the Eugene City Council. The council decided by a 5-1 vote not to pursue a process that could lead to the designation of the east grandstand as a city historic landmark.
Here is the story by the R-G's Christian Hill about what happened in the meeting.
