Out of adversity emerged the latest offensive star for the Oregon volleyball team, a secret weapon who's no longer a secret after last weekend.
Senior middle blocker Sumeet Gill hit .622 and averaged 3.22 kills per set last weekend, when the Ducks swept three matches in the Oregon Classic at Matthew Knight Arena. Through five matches overall, entering this weekend's Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge hosted by Stanford, Gill is hitting .541, first in the Pac-12 Conference and No. 2 nationally.
For three years, Gill has been an effective complementary player for the Ducks, averaging a little over a kill per set while providing an athletic, 6-foot-2 presence in the middle of the front line.
