EUGENE - Georgia won the NCAA men's outdoor track & field title Friday at Hayward Field, and even after they had clinched the championship the Bulldogs weren't sure.
"I don't think those kids believed they won," Georgia coach Petros Kyprianou said. "They were asking each other, 'Are we national champions?'"
Actually, they left no doubt. Georgia finished with 52 points, comfortably in front of pre-meet favorite Florida, second with 42.
The men's competition wrapped with panache before an announced crowd of 11,644 on a wet day that featured record-smashing performances by Michael Norman and Rai Benjamin of USC, USC's 4x400 relay and Houston's 4x100.
